Experts from inside and outside the Christian industry analyzed the nominated bookstores. The judges considered accomplishments in

• inventory control,
• marketing,
• merchandising,
• stewardship in finances,
• staff management,
• technology, and
• ministry outreach.

Cedar Springs won four out of seven categories and edged out some very good bookstores for the top honor.

This is not the first time Cedar Springs has received the honor of "Christian Bookstore of the Year". In 1994, Cedar Springs received this award while serving Knoxville in its original location. We're honored to receive this award of excellence and we're honored and happy to serve Jesus Christ by serving you.

The Early Years
In 1976, Curtis and Lois McGinnis decided that a Christian bookstore was needed in West Knoxville. In October of that year, they opened a small (1600 square foot) Christian Bookstore in the Cedar Springs Shopping Center located at the intersection of Kingston Pike and Cedar Bluff Road. Evelyn Sutherland (Curtis' sister) and Diane Parker (former music director at Grace Baptist Church) were the store's first two employees. Curtis began his store workday after completing a day of work as a machinist at Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Recent History
Since then, the store has grown from its humble beginnings to one of the largest Christian Retail Stores in the nation.

The current facility is over 30,000 square feet with 16,500 of that space dedicated to retail sales. Cedar Springs is dedicated to providing the best selection of Bibles, Christian books, music, videos and gift items in East Tennessee (and anywhere, for that matter).

Cedar Springs currently offers four locations for convenient shoping. The main store in West Knoxville, a store on Clinton Highway in East Knoxville, a store in Oak Ridge, TN, and a store in South Nashville, TN.
